Is It Time for a New AC?

A repair isn't always the best use of your money. It may be time to replace your air conditioner if:

  • It's 12 to 15 years old or more and needs a major repair.
  • It uses R-22 refrigerant. R-22 is no longer produced in the U.S., so recharging an old system gets expensive fast.
  • It keeps breaking down every summer.
  • Some rooms never cool, or the house feels sticky even when the AC runs.
  • Your power bills keep climbing with no change in how you use the house.

Not sure? The $5,000 rule on our AC repair in Arlington page is a quick way to compare a repair quote against replacement. If a repair makes more sense, we'll tell you.

New AC Systems We Install in Arlington

Central Air Conditioner Replacement

A new outdoor condenser and matching indoor coil, connected to your existing furnace or air handler.

Full System Replacement

A new AC and a new furnace or air handler installed together, so both halves are matched and under warranty at the same time.

Heat Pump Installation

One system that cools in summer and heats in winter. A good fit for all-electric Arlington homes and homes with an aging electric furnace.

We install for homes and light commercial buildings.

Sized for Your House, Not a Guess

A bigger AC isn't a better AC. An oversized system cools the air fast, shuts off, and never runs long enough to pull humidity out of the house. You end up cold and clammy, and the constant starting wears out the compressor sooner.

A proper replacement starts with a load calculation (ACCA Manual J). It looks at your home's square footage, insulation, windows, which way the house faces and how the ducts are laid out. Rules of thumb like "one ton per 500 square feet" skip all of that.

We also check the parts of the system that stay in place:

  • Ductwork. Leaky or undersized ducts, especially in a hot Arlington attic, can waste much of a new system's output.
  • Indoor coil and air handler. The indoor and outdoor units need to be a matched pair to reach their rated efficiency.
  • Thermostat, drain line and electrical. A new system on an old breaker or a clogged drain line is a callback waiting to happen.

Replacing an AC in 2026: What Changed

New refrigerants. New home AC systems made since 2025 use lower-impact refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32 instead of R-410A. Your current R-410A system can still be repaired and recharged. In May 2026 the EPA also removed the deadline for installing R-410A equipment that was built before 2025, so some of that stock is still being installed.

Efficiency minimums. In Texas, a new split central air conditioner must be at least 14.3 SEER2 (13.8 SEER2 for systems 45,000 Btu and larger), and split heat pumps must be at least 14.3 SEER2. Higher-efficiency systems cost more up front and less to run.

No federal tax credit. The federal 25C credit for heat pumps and efficient AC ended for systems installed after December 31, 2025. Ask about any current utility or manufacturer rebates when you get your quote.

How AC Replacement Works

  1. Call or request a quote. Tell us about your current system and what's going wrong.

  2. In-home visit. We look at your current equipment, ductwork, electrical and attic space, and run the sizing numbers.

  3. Written quote. You get the system, the price and what's included in writing. No pressure, and no work starts until you say go.

  4. Permit and scheduling. The installing contractor pulls any permit the City of Arlington requires and sets your install date.

  5. Installation day. The old equipment is removed and recovered, the new system is set, connected and charged, and the work area is cleaned up. Many straight replacements are finished in a day.

  6. Startup and walkthrough. The system is tested for proper airflow, temperatures and refrigerant charge. We show you the thermostat and filter, and register the equipment warranty with the manufacturer.

AC Installation FAQs

How much does a new AC cost in Arlington, TX?

It depends on the size of the system, the efficiency rating, whether the furnace or air handler is replaced too, and how much ductwork or electrical work is needed. An AC-only changeout costs much less than a full system. You'll get a written quote for your house before anything is scheduled.

How long does AC installation take?

Many straight replacements are done in one day. A full system, a new heat pump, duct changes or a hard-to-reach attic can take longer. You'll know the plan before install day.

What size AC do I need?

The right size comes from a load calculation on your home, not square footage alone. Oversized systems short cycle and leave the house humid. Undersized systems run nonstop on the hottest days.

Should I replace my furnace at the same time?

Not always. If the furnace is fairly new and in good shape, replacing just the AC can make sense. If it's about as old as the AC, replacing both together keeps the system matched and usually costs less than two separate jobs.

Is R-410A being banned? Do I have to replace my AC?

No. Nothing requires you to replace a working R-410A system, and it can still be serviced. New systems made since 2025 use newer refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32.

Is there still a federal tax credit for a new AC or heat pump?

No. The federal 25C credit ended for systems installed after December 31, 2025. Ask about current utility or manufacturer rebates when you get a quote.

Do I need a permit to replace my AC in Arlington?

Plan on it. Replacing a central air system normally needs a city mechanical permit, and the licensed contractor doing the work is the one who pulls it.
